Surftown Munich

In the summer of 2024, Germany’s first surf park, O2 Surftown MUC, opened its doors. Under the motto “Surfing for Everyone,” an innovative leisure and adventure destination was created. Experienced coaches and perfect waves ensure fun for surfers of all skill levels.

For this project, sld mediatec, as the lead planner and contractor, was responsible for the design, technical planning, installation, and complete implementation of the technical systems.

Comprehensive technical planning and implementation

As part of the project, we implemented a comprehensive technical solution. It integrates media technology, audio and lighting systems, networking technology, and intelligent control systems into a cohesive, end-to-end concept.

Among other things, the impressive LED wall directly above the water, various displays, audio and lighting equipment in and around the restaurant, and the necessary network infrastructure were installed. As a result, all systems work together seamlessly and reliably.

Media Technology for a Unique Visitor Experience

The technical solution was implemented in a way that supports both functional requirements and the unique on-site experience. The combination of visual presence, flexible audio technology, and intelligent control creates an environment in which entertainment, information, and atmosphere work together seamlessly.

Innovative Media and Room Control

The Surftown Munich project is characterized by modern and innovative media and room control. High-performance hardware, intelligent software, and a well-thought-out operating philosophy work together seamlessly here.

Despite technical and planning challenges, a future-proof and flexible solution was developed that was specifically tailored to the customer's requirements.

Pixilab Blocks as the central control system

A key component of the system is Pixilab Blocks. The platform controls all building systems across the entire facility. It integrates audio, video, decorative lighting, and building automation into a unified system architecture.

The result was a centralized control solution that enables high efficiency, intuitive operation, and dynamic interaction among all technical components.

Flexible and future-proof system architecture

The flexibility and scalability of Pixilab Blocks also enable future-proof expansions and adaptations to changing requirements. This centralized, cross-system control is a significant advantage, especially for complex projects involving various technical disciplines.

LED Wall, Audio Equipment, and Stage Solution

The entire control system, including KNX and DALI, has been integrated into the central Pixilab Blocks system. This allows all functions to be conveniently controlled via tablets.

Particularly noteworthy are the 16.8 x 6-meter LED wall, the flexible audio system with various zones, the decorative lighting for the pool and building, and the on-site floodlights. All of these components are managed through a single platform.

Multifunctional stage for events and live performances

In addition, a multifunctional stage was built. It can be used for both press conferences and larger events, and is equipped with professional lighting controls.

Thanks to the built-in stage box, it is also possible to host concerts and other live events.

Surftown Munich as an Example of Modern Media Technology

O2 Surftown MUC is thus a prime example of modern media technology, smart building automation, and a networked technical infrastructure.

The project demonstrates how high-performance systems, centralized control, and well-thought-out technical planning can work together to implement an innovative and flexible usage concept.
