sld mediatec installed the audiovisual equipment in the movie theater at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts. The goal was to create a solution that would enable professional film screenings while also being easy to use.
The university is an arts and sciences institution. Students use the theater to present their own films in various formats. To this end, the installation combines high-quality projection, precise surround sound, flexible lighting technology, and intuitive controls.
Centralized control via Crestron touch panels
All key functions are controlled via two Crestron touch panels. These include source selection, aspect ratios, audio, lighting, and curtains.
The user interface is clearly organized. This makes it easy to quickly prepare and reliably control movie screenings, presentations, and events.
4K Projection and 16-mm Film Technology
A Christie 4K cinema projector is used for digital content. It ensures clear, detailed, and brilliant image reproduction.
In addition, an analog 16-mm film projector has been installed. This allows for the screening of classic film formats as well. As a result, the theater is suitable for both modern productions and historical film footage.
7.1 Surround Sound for Spatial Audio
The audio system is a 7.1 surround sound system. It consists of three front speakers, six side speakers, two rear speakers, and two subwoofers.
This configuration produces a spatial soundstage with a wide dynamic range. Speech, music, and sound effects are reproduced clearly and with great detail.
Sound and Lighting for a Professional Movie Theater Experience
The entire theater was acoustically lined. This improves speech intelligibility and reduces distracting reflections, creating a balanced sound environment for movies, teaching, and presentations.
Each side panel features six sld-custom LED strips, each approximately five meters long. They are dimmable and can be adjusted continuously from warm white to cool white.
Flexible Lighting for Different Formats
In addition, high-quality floodlights were installed. The system includes profile floodlights, step-lens floodlights, and wide-angle floodlights.
This allows the space to be lit appropriately for its intended use. In addition to film screenings, the space can also be used for discussions, presentations, and artistic events.
Networked Media System in the University Building
The media system is connected to other technical rooms in the building. Content can therefore also be transmitted to the movie projector from other rooms.
This interconnectedness increases flexibility in university operations. It supports a variety of sources, processes, and usage scenarios.
Professional Media Technology in the Movie Theater
With the addition of the movie theater, the Hamburg University of Fine Arts gained a high-performance media technology infrastructure.
